The Ghost Piano explores space, timbre, and the influence of an instrument on the listener’s expectations. By using a piano as a focal point for the piece but never allowing it to play a note, I investigate the societal power and meaning of a physical instrument. It is because the piano is essentially unnecessary that it is absolutely intrinsic to the work.
