When the smoke clears

Dogtooth Mountain Range, Summer, 2024.
I was driving home from work one evening in late July. The farther south I went, the darker the world grew. By Schiesser Road, the mountains had vanished behind a thick dome of smoke, burnt orange and acrid. I remember thinking that it was the exact colour of pumpkin pie. I wondered if the world was ending.

This is a piece about the end of that fire: the last cacophony of flame, the air clearing of ash, and the mountains finally reappearing from behind the oppressive, all-encompassing smoke.
This piece will be premiered in December 2026.
